A report of the Office of Special Counsel of the Department of Veterans Affairs states that the Department had “failed to timely reimburse community healthcare providers, which resulted in some of those providers terminating services for [v]eterans and referring [v]eterans to collection agencies for nonpayment.” Such collection attempts most likely violate the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, among other laws.
