North Carolina Attorney General settles with debt collectors Turtle Creek Assets and Royal Park Holdings.
The Attorney General of North Carolina has announced a consent judgment with debt collectors Turtle Creek Assets and Royal Park Holdings and their president and chief executive officer Gordon Scott Engle. The settlement provides for forgiveness of $23 million in unpaid debts, payment of $225,000 in restitution to consumers, payment of nearly $30,000 in fines and legal costs, and an injunction against further collection activities in North Carolina. The Attorney General alleged that Engle and his companies had engaged in unlicensed collection activities, including sending consumers mock criminal summonses. allegedly engaging in illegal collection practices.
