Payday Lenders Sued By Edelman, Combs, Latturner & Goodwin, LLC The Chicago law firm of Edelman, Combs, Latturner & Goodwin, LLC filed a class action lawsuit against another Indiana "payday lender," Charlie-Checks, Inc., seeking to recover damages for excessive interest charged numerous Indiana consumers. On August 16, 2001, the Indiana Supreme Court ruled that the typical "payday loan" made by an Indiana lender at more than 36% interest is unlawful under the Indiana Uniform Consumer Credit Code and the Indiana Loansharking Statute.
